Deu Beagá no New York Times!

The point of departure is Belo Horizonte, or Beagá (BH) as it is more commonly known. Beagá is my hometown. I lived here until I was 24 years old when I left to explore the world. In my time outside of Brazil I met Stephan. We are living together in Beagá since February 2009. It is not a city you can understand with a quick look, but among its mountains and serras, there are many special corners and places to discover.

For a small taste of Beagá, I share here an interesting outsider view. This article was published in the New York Times in October 2007. It will help you visualize our point of departure a little more clearly.

It is decided: Stephan and I are starting our search in the Northeast of Brazil for the place we will build our Pousada (or Hotel de Charme) on 1 February 2010 (mirror date for all outside the US: 01.02.2010!). In a bit more than 3 months we will leave the waterfalls, mountains and bars of Minas Gerais behind and start our search.

Our dream is not to simply build a pousada. Our dream is to defy the current paradigm of competition, individualism and earth exploitation, to another one of cooperation, understanding and hope... We understand the greater challenge lies within ourselves, so we want to start from the beginning … US!
