We are aware that we are in the middle of a crisis – climate change, economic downturn, global poverty, are all but symptoms of a profound crises that will reshape the way humanity lives, loves and works. We believe that among the reasons for this crisis is the way we as individuals live, disconnected from nature. Modern consumption is one of the most pronounced expressions of this lifestyle.
Because we are aware of the crisis, we want to change. We want to live a life in tune with nature and become socially and environmentally responsible consumers. We call this goal living with Suficiente (meaning enough in Portuguese). However, we don’t know yet how to do it. We decided that we need to meet with and learn from those who have changed. We do know that only us and those who have changed are not enough, so we want to make more people aware.
To find Suficiente, we will start on the 1st of February (01.02.2010) with a 4-month trip to the Northeast of Brazil. During our trip, we will use this website to share photos, videos and stories of places we go to. By sharing with you what we experience, we hope to:
1. Increase awareness of a particularly urgent crises – climate change – by:
- Exposing the consequences of climate change – e.g. affected communities, decrease of biodiversity, pollution of natural resources etc.
- Giving visibility to people and organizations that work to protect or rehabilitate nature.
- Helping to connect people working on social and environmental issues with each other.
- Bringing nature to the cities by sharing pictures, videos and stories of the unique places we visit with our readers.
2. Find a place closer to nature:
A place where we can build a life more in tune with Earth and therefore with People.
3. Find the inspiration for the next step to Suficiente
Building a Pousada was the first thing we thought about. It is concrete and easier to explain to others than Suficiente. But the more we think about our search the more open we become. We might build a Pousada, a restaurant, run a reforestation project, an educational project, an NGO or start a PhD thesis!
